The other girl on the train and traced tragedies: "My case was useless, I feel anger and sadness"

2023-01-28T16:15:57.154Z

Brenda Bigiatti was on the verge of death five years ago. Her cell phone was stolen from her and she fell on the tracks, just like Flavia Cruzado now. She listens to the audio of encouragement.

"It's terrible, nothing has changed. The train is the same, the doors are the same. My case was talked about so much and it was useless...

I feel angry and sad

."

Brenda Bigiatti is "the girl on the train."

That's what everyone called her 5 years ago when a security camera captured the exact moment a thief gets out of a moving wagon and she falls onto the tracks.

She was hospitalized for a month, very serious.

And everyone also promised greater security then.

"But nothing has changed, everything is the same

," Brenda laments on the other side of the line, before a call from

Clarín

.

She says that she is just on duty in the Pediatric sector of the Churruca Hospital where she was admitted two years ago, shortly after graduating from the UBA as a doctor.

That title was hard to come by.

Much.

It is that Brenda was attacked when she was traveling on the Belgrano Norte train heading to the Malvinas Argentinas university hospital where she had to complete one of the last surgical practices.

She had to get off at the Pablo Nogués station, the same one where Flavia Cruzado Leguizamón suffered an attack this week.

"I can't believe it. A tragedy similar to mine, five years later," says Brenda.

And all for a cell phone.

Flavia Cruzado, the girl who was thrown from a train during a robbery on the Belgrano Norte train.

Brenda, remember, was sitting on the train that day sending a little message to her sister.

Flavia was also sitting, near the door, sending a WhatsApp to a friend of hers.

Both followed the thief who stole their cell phone and fell onto the train tracks.

Brenda ended up with a fractured skull, ribs, clavicle, and spine.

Flavia lost a leg and is fighting for her life.

She is 19 years old.

She dreams of being a lawyer.

This morning, Brenda recorded an audio for her:

"Strength Flavia, you will be able to fulfill your dream, like me. You will get ahead, don't give up, I wish you the best."

Brenda not only had a hard time going back to school and graduating as a doctor.

She also had a hard time getting back on the train.

She did it as part of a therapy that she discussed with her psychologist.

She still doesn't remember how she fell, but going back to that station helped her put together the puzzle of that tragic day.

"Although that moment was completely erased from my memory, they say that due to post-traumatic stress, I was able to recognize the place, the train, and that did me good. It connected me with the university, with the university hospital, with the talks I had On the train with my companions, with the shared readings of the texts we had to study... the train was not associated only with my accident. Before, I didn't even want to go through Retiro," she says.

But now again the anguish

.

He receives

Clarín

's WhatsApp in the middle of his guard.

He reads the note on Flavia's case and immediately returns an audio with a broken voice: "We didn't learn anything."

Brenda Bigiatti has already graduated as a doctor.

A fan of Boca and the band

The Killers

, Brenda assures that the last operation she had on her head "was a success", which is already fine, although she has to wear bangs on her forehead to cover the hole that was left above her the right eyebrow.

Brenda and Flavia were not the only victims of the Belgrano Norte train.

Two years ago, the Court sentenced the company Ferrovías (train concessionaire) and the National State to compensate a passenger who had also been attacked and thrown onto the tracks by three criminals who stole his cell phone with a million-dollar sum.

That event occurred on January 7, 2009 and the ruling took eleven years to arrive.

It was very hard: he maintained that the

"indispensable respect for the dignity" of the passengers

was not met .

Judges Oscar Ameal, Osvaldo Onofre Alvarez and Silvia Bermejo issued a warning: "If proper police control is carried out to avoid attacks or criminal acts in rail transport, as well as security in relation to the closing of the doors, for the purposes that the formation does not start or that can stop if they open when walking -two of the factors that have influenced the outcome of the accident in this file-, will imply a safety floor for the users”.

The magistrates alluded to Law 24240 and the National Constitution.

"To the extent that the control that the law itself grants to the concessionaire and the Regulatory Commission is not practiced, accidents -with the potential to be fatal- will unfortunately be repeated."

So it was.
