With the war and economic uncertainty, there is a desire to escape among Italians, at least when they devote themselves to reading: this is revealed by the 2022 report by Readly, the main European supplier of subscriptions to digital newspapers and magazines, according to which subscribers of our country have read 1.7 million publications on the app, choosing magazines in the categories Celebrity & Entertainment (15% share of total readers), Lifestyle (11% share of total readers) and Interior Design & Architecture ( 10% share of total readers).

On average, Italians monthly dedicated 4.6 hours to reading magazines and 3.1 hours to reading newspapers, a value that is up by 38% compared to 2021. The use of mobile devices was 20% for magazines and 17% for newspapers,

and 31% of the titles read by Italian subscribers is by a foreign author.

Globally, according to this annual report, 86,000 digital publications have been read 146 million times on the platform, with a 23% increase in newspaper readers using Readly, compared to 2021. The most popular time to read magazines is Thursday at 18.00, while for the newspapers it is at 7.00 on Sundays.

If in the international context, Readly's subscribers have mostly chosen newspapers, news and political publications, "relying on the quality journalism available on the platform to stay informed and updated", says Marie Sophie Von Bibra, Chief Marketing Officer of Readly, "

Instead, we see that Italian readers have spent time on the Readly app mainly to read gossip news and events relating to celebrities, probably as an escape to switch off in particularly intense periods and in a difficult and uncertain general climate.

Lifestyle and Interior Design magazines have certainly helped Italians get inspiration for a change in personal style and in homes, which is once again a consequence of a combination of current events". (ANSA).
