(ANSA-AFP) - ANTANANARIVO, JAN 29 - Twenty-five people are dead, another 21 are missing and about 38,000 are displaced in Madagascar after the passage of a tropical storm in the north-east of the country last week.
This was announced today by the Office for Risk and Disaster Management in its latest report.
The latest report, dated Friday, reported 22 dead.
The government agency also indicates that a total of 83,181 people were affected by this wave of bad weather that hit the island in the Indian Ocean.
The January 19 storm, nicknamed Cheneso, caused flooding and road traffic problems, especially those leading to the capital, Antananarivo.
The storm then transitioned into a tropical cyclone with speeds of 118 to 166 kilometers per hour before decreasing in intensity.
In southern Africa, the hurricane season runs from November to April, and Madagascar regularly suffers devastating consequences.
