An 89-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment in Michelbach an der Bilz (Schwäbisch Hall district) on Wednesday evening.
The investigation into the death of the criminal police found evidence that she died violently.
According to media reports, the investigators are now examining connections to two other deaths of older women.
Prosecutor Harald Lustig told Südwestrundfunk on Sunday that "such an accumulation of homicides" is not common in the region.
The crime scenes are close together.
According to the Südwestpresse and "Bild", the three women were killed in their homes - all on a Wednesday.
The investigation has now taken over the so-called "Soko height".
It was founded in December after the murder of a 77-year-old in Schwäbisch Hall and is now being increased in terms of staff.
Prosecutor Lustig told the "Bild" that it automatically follows that a third case from 2020 is also "on the screen" and parallels are brought together.
At that time, a 94-year-old was killed in Schwäbisch Hall.
