As revealed last Wednesday (1/25) at a Media Real event hosted by Ofer Petersburg - this morning (Sunday) the government approved the proposal of the Minister of Construction and Housing, Yitzhak Goldknopf, to establish a new housing cabinet headed by him.
According to the approved proposal - it will be established as soon as possible A Ministerial Committee for Housing, Construction and Land Affairs, chaired by the Minister of Construction and Housing, and with the participation of the Minister of Finance, the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Energy, the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Education, the Minister for Development of the Negev and Galilee Periphery, the Minister of Environmental Protection, the Minister of Settlements and the Minister of Agriculture
. At the head of the housing cabinet during the election period, about 3 months ago, was Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself. Today, apparently, he has more important pursuits than finding a solution to the housing crisis.

With the entry of the Minister of Construction and Housing Goldknopf into his position, the minister directed the professional parties to prepare a broad and in-depth staff work with the aim of preserving the record numbers in land marketing and construction starts.
At the same time, in light of the government's policy, the minister instructed to act to lower housing prices and increase the supply of apartments.
Also, the minister realized that there is a fundamental and immediate need to pool resources between all the parties and to remove barriers that arise on the way to achieving the target goals.

The resolution proposal approved this morning is of crucial importance in solving the housing crisis;
The housing cabinet will have powers to determine government policy in the field of housing, to approve and promote reforms and structural changes to streamline government policy in the areas of real estate, to initiate planning and execution of residential construction, and to monitor the implementation of decisions, among other things, for the purpose of optimizing land use.
Also, the housing cabinet will work to promote diverse projects and models in the field of initiating and executing residential construction, for example affordable housing, long-term rental housing and public housing.
The housing cabinet will also discuss and decide on the issues of clearing land for housing needs, reforms and structural changes in the field of Israel's land, including regarding the Israel Land Authority, formulating solutions to barriers and coordination between the factors in the areas of budget, transportation, education, infrastructure and environment as far as housing projects are concerned.
Development and promotion of urban renewal in Israel such as initiating plans, and formulating policy measures in the aspects of initiating planning and construction with the aim of accelerating the urban renewal projects in the demand areas and the periphery.
