Rescuers found the body of a 63-year-old woman, a native of Buenos Aires,
who had fallen on Saturday afternoon into the waters of the Atuel River, in western Mendoza
, while on vacation with a friend.
From the Malargüe departmental headquarters they confirmed to the Télam agency that during Sunday noon
they found the lifeless body of the woman
, who had been intensely searched during the previous hours.
A call to 911 had alerted that the woman was walking on Saturday afternoon, around 5:00 p.m., together with a friend on the banks of the Atuel River towards the Barroso Camp, passing the Valley of Tears.
It is a few kilometers from the border with Chile, in an area well into the foothills.

they were passing along the Atuel, both friends tried to cross the riverbed

However, in an oversight the two fell into the water.
One of them was able to escape and went out to look for help, but the other was dragged away by the current of water.
The tourist who managed to get out (53 years old) asked for help from a person in the area, who was the one who notified the authorities.
According to information from the Ministry of Security, they only
became aware of the disappearance minutes before midnight
through a 911 call from the owner of a shelter that is near the abandoned hotel of the El Sosneado hot springs.

The police sources indicated that it was
about 77 kilometers of difficult access and that the works can only be carried out on foot
due to the complexity of the geography.
