Chelsea have offered €120m, more than £105m, to bring Benfica's Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez to London.
The British media write it, underlining that if the operation goes through it would mark a record for English football, eclipsing the 100 million pounds that Manchester City towards Aston Villa for Jack Grealish in 2021.
Fernandez, elected best young player of the tournament at the World Cup in Qatar won by Argentina.
he has long been in Les Bleus' sights, but so far the Portuguese club had closed the door to every offer.
The news of the relaunch would indicate, however, that there are still some glimmers.
The 22-year-old midfielder was signed from Benfica just last summer by River Plate, for £10m.
Chelsea, acquired by US billionaire Todd Boehly, has already spent this January over 180 million pounds (about 204 million euros) to buy the Ukrainian Mykhailo Mudryk, the Ivorian international David Fofana, the Frenchman Benoit Badiashile, the Brazilian Andrey Santos and the Englishman Noni Madueke, as well as taking the Portuguese striker Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid.
