In 2022, 29 out of 95 cities exceeded the daily limits of PM10 fine particles with Turin in first place with 98 days of exceeding, followed by Milan with 84 and Asti with 79. Together with Modena, Padua and Venice recorded more than double the permitted PM10 exceedances (35 days a year with a daily average above 50 micrograms per cubic metre).
These are the data from Legambiente's annual report "Mal'Aria di città 2023: change of pace wanted" to combat air pollution.
Compared to the new European targets set for 2030, says the NGO, the situation is even more critical: 76% of cities are outlawed for PM10, 84% for PM2.5 and 61% for nitrogen dioxide ( No2).
