Attack with a knife by a person in the Brussels metro near the Schumann station, where the European institutions are based.
Three first aid cars arrived at the scene together with several police officers who immediately cordoned off the area.
The federal police have confirmed for now that in the afternoon, at the Schumann metro station,
one person was injured and another was arrested
by the railway police.
However, according to several witnesses, three people - a woman and two men - were injured
in the stabbing in the European quarter of the Belgian capital.
One of the three injured is "in critical condition"
, local media reported, quoting sources from the Belgian federal police.
Authorities have not released comments, so far, on the reasons for the stabbing.
According to a source close to the dossier, the attacker, who is in custody, "
was already known to have a psychiatric record
".
The attacker was stopped by the police inside the subway stop.
Train circulation has resumed but at the moment access is not allowed from the entrance to the Schuman station located a stone's throw from Palazzo Berlaymont, headquarters of the EU Commission.
