Employed people in Italy in December grew by 37 thousand units on November and by 334 thousand units on December 2021. This was noted by Istat, underlining that the employment rate between 15 and 64 years old rises to 60.5%,
the highest level since 2004,
starting date of the time series.
Total employed persons in the month were 23,215,000, the highest level since June 2019.
In December 2022,
the unemployment rate is estimated at 7.8%
, stable compared to November and down by one percentage point on December 2021. This was noted by Istat, underlining that there were 1,960,00 unemployed in the month, an increase of 2,000 units on November and a drop of 242 thousand units on December 2021. The youth unemployment rate drops to 22.1% (-0.5 points on the month, -4.1 points on the year).
The number of inactive people between the ages of 15 and 64 overall decreased (-54,000 on November, -225,000 while the inactivity rate settled at 34.3%).
Out of 334,000 more employed in December 2022 than in December 2021,
296,000 are men
(over 88%) and 38,000 women.

Compared to November there was an increase of 19,000 employed for women and 18,000 for men.
However, the female employment rate is increasing and in December it stood at 51.3% with an increase of 0.1 points over November and 0.5 points over December 2021. There are 9,763,000 employed women compared to 13,452. 000 men.
