She celebrated success in the 1970s with films such as "American Graffiti" and the TV series "Laverne & Shirley": The American actress Cindy Williams died at the age of 75.

US actress Cindy Williams, known from TV series and films such as "American Graffiti" and "The Conversation", is dead. According to US media, her children Zak and Emily Hudson announced in a statement on Monday (local time) that Williams died after a short illness.

The actress was 75 years old.

She had a "brilliant sense of humor," quoted CNN and the Hollywood Reporter, among other things, from the statement.

Her 2004 Walk of Fame star was to be decorated with flowers to commemorate her, according to the Star Plaquers in Hollywood.

Williams had his first film successes in the 1970s in "American Graffiti" directed by George Lucas and in Francis Ford Coppola's crime novel "The Conversation" (»The Conversation«) alongside Gene Hackman.

She became known through the sitcom »Laverne & Shirley«, which was a hit in the USA from 1976 to 1983.

Williams and the actress and director Penny Marshall, who died in 2018, thrilled as friends and roommates who work in a brewery.

From 1982 until their divorce in 2000, Williams was married to musician and actor Bill Hudson, actress Goldie Hawn's ex-husband.
