The University of Damascus decided to raise funding for master’s research from one million to two million Syrian pounds, and doctoral research from three million to five million Syrian pounds, in addition to opening the ceiling for financing research for teaching assistants and members of the teaching staff after studying it from specialized scientific committees for approval.
Dr. Muhammad Firas Hinnawi, Vice President of Damascus University for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, explained in a statement to SANA today that this decision falls within the framework of supporting the knowledge economy, and the university’s position in the field of scientific research, especially after the results of the “Web Matrix” global ranking of universities for the year 2023 were issued yesterday, which Damascus University's progress in scientific research showed 633 ranks.
Dr. Hinnawi explained that the classification of the University of Damascus advanced in general according to the Web Matrix classification to become 3458 globally, after it was 3613 according to the previous classification, while the university’s ranking remained first at the level of Syrian universities and research centers, and Damascus University ranked 2504 in the transparency classification associated with the scientific researcher. Google Scholar is 633 ranks ahead of the previous ranking.
It is noteworthy that the Spanish “Web Matrix” center specializes in classifying universities in the world according to the information received about them and related to them and available on their websites according to certain criteria in which it monitors the scientific and academic activities of universities, the number of electronically published research, studies and reports, and the availability of access to them through electronic presence and the extent of their follow-up. .
