Elton John's farewell tour "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" is a huge success for the pop star even before the tour ends.
The world tour is said to have grossed more than 817.9 million US dollars with 278 shows, according to the US industry magazine »Billboard«.
With the »Billboard Boxscore«, the magazine regularly publishes statistics on live music, such as revenue and audience numbers.
According to »Billboard Boxscore«, »Farewell Yellow Brick Road« is already the most commercially successful concert tour since the evaluations began.
So far, singer Ed Sheeran has led the magazine's ranking.
His »Divide Tour« is said to have grossed around 776.4 million US dollars.
Elton John's touring career is set to end in Europe this summer.
The 75-year-old has also planned appearances in Germany (Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Mannheim and Cologne), Great Britain, Spain and France.
The final is scheduled for July 8 in Stockholm.
With the remaining concerts, however, Elton John will not make it to the top of the list of the highest number of viewers on a tour, according to »Billboard Boxscore«.
In terms of ticket sales, Ed Sheeran's Divide Tour tops U2's The 360 Tour and the Rolling Stones' Voodoo Lounge Tour (1994-95) with 8.9 million tickets.
But Coldplay and Guns N' Roses could still surpass Elton John, the »Billboard« experts believe.
To date, 5.3 million tickets have been sold for Farewell Yellow Brick Road concerts.
