(ANSA) - MILAN, FEBRUARY 02 - In Italy, only 0.4% of citizens (185,500) have filed the advance provisions on treatment since the entry into force of the law on January 31, 2018.
A void, according to the Luca Coscioni Association which conducted a survey of 6,500 Municipalities, determined by the lack of knowledge of the tool.
In Lombardy, for example, only one inhabitant out of 200 has filed the Dat with its municipality, i.e. 36,476 citizens in the whole region.
In Piedmont one inhabitant out of 159 deposited them, in Liguria one in every 174, in Campania one in every 337.
This is why the Luca Coscioni Association is launching an information campaign.
A press/social media initiative that will leverage a video narrated by Giobbe Covatta entitled 'The bio-will explained to adults', to illustrate the importance of the living will and offer all the information to be able to do so immediately.
"Grandfather, do you think you are going to die?".
With this question, a little girl, starting from the experience of her own cat's death, involves her grandfather on the subject of the bio-will, and explains to him in a light and delicate way the importance of being able to express one's choices in advance in terms of health treatments, to avoid others, like her, having to decide for him.
"We are once again replacing the State, with the means at our disposal, in carrying out an information campaign on an instrument of fundamental freedom, but so far kept hidden by the Ministry of Health of the Governments that have followed one another in these 5 years - declare Filomena Gallo and Marco Cappato, respectively Associazione secretary and treasurer Luca Coscioni - We also officially asked for a meeting with the current Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, to talk about this and other crucial issues related to fundamental freedoms and the right to health".
