The force of the collision was so great that a train was torn apart in the middle: two trams collided in Freiburg on Thursday morning.
14 people were injured in the accident, one man seriously.
He was thrown out of a train, as reported by SWR.
The cause of the accident has not yet been finally determined, said the manager of Freiburger Verkehrs AG (VAG), Johannes Waibel.
"But it looks as if there was a wrong run on a switch."
A police spokesman said children were among the injured.
Many children were on their way to school.
The vehicle that was torn apart was 30 years old.
The transport company sent a bus to the scene of the accident – almost 40 people were treated professionally there.
