On average, women earned 18 percent less per hour than men last year.
Even with the same job and qualifications, women earn less.
Women are still often in part-time work because they consciously or unconsciously wanted or had to take on the care work in their family model.
This can be one reason why women earn less, but this need not be the only reason, there can also be a pay gap between men and women doing the same job and having equivalent qualifications.
The differences in pay are checked annually and recorded in the Gender Pay Gap.

Adjusted and unadjusted gender pay gap – the differences
According to information from the Federal Statistical Office
, the unadjusted gender pay gap compares
the average earnings of all employees.
This means that differences in salaries for different jobs and career levels are also recorded.
The adjusted gender pay gap shows the difference in earnings between women and men with comparable qualifications, jobs and employment histories.
Unadjusted gender pay gap: women more often in sectors with a lower level of requirements
For 2022, the gender pay gap was analyzed for the first time using a new earnings survey.
According to this, around 63 percent of the earnings gap can be explained.
The most important reasons for a difference in earnings are therefore: poorly paid sectors and part-time work.
According to the Federal Statistical Office
, the remaining 37 percent could
not be finally clarified.
This area is part of the adjusted gender pay gap, which is estimated at 7 percent for 2022.

Adjusted gender pay gap is 7 percent, but could be lower
The same job, the same qualifications and the same employment history, but still less pay.
Women earn around 7 percent less per hour than men who have the same qualifications.
However, the experts from
the Federal Statistical Office
assume that the differences would actually be smaller because certain factors were not taken into account.
These are, for example, pregnancies or the care of relatives.
The adjusted gender pay gap should therefore be understood as an upper limit.
