A squirrel has partially paralyzed the S-Bahn traffic near Hanover.
The animal climbed into an overhead line between Wunstorf and Lehrte and was electrocuted.
Due to the short circuit, a power cable came loose, as the federal police announced.
According to the information, the cable fell on a passing S-Bahn and a passing freight train on the siding.
The freight train tore off the 10,000-volt line over a length of 500 meters.
The railway line was completely closed and the electricity was switched off.
The travelers were only able to change to a replacement train that had been ordered to the scene of the accident after about three hours.
No one was injured in the incident, and the squirrel died.
It is still unclear when the repairs to the overhead line will be completed.
