No more kitsch? ZDF wants to commission fewer Rosamunde Pilcher and Inga Lindstrom films in the future. The broadcaster is targeting younger audiences. But some things remain the same.

ZDF is letting fewer »Rosamunde Pilcher« films be shot this year than in the past.

According to a spokesman for the broadcaster, three new Pilcher films are currently being filmed from the end of March.

First, "Bild" reported on the reduction in films "from originally five to three a year".

According to "Bild", the "Inga Lindstrom" films are also being put to the test.

The Pilcher film series with almost 170 films on ZDF has been around for almost 30 years.

It is loosely based on novels by British author Rosamunde Pilcher (1924-2019) and is mostly filmed in Cornwall, southern England.

In the future, ZDF wants to produce more programs for people who have hardly reached the second so far.

According to the industry service DWDL, 100 million euros are to be spent on this.

Norbert Himmler had already presented the strategy process, dubbed "One ZDF for everyone", in 2021 after he had been elected artistic director. It should lead to addressing younger target groups and making the program more diverse overall.

Against this background, the end of crime series such as "SOKO Hamburg", "Letzte Spur Berlin" and the people magazine "Leute heute" had already become known in the past few days.

"The old man" remains despite all the innovations

Whether it should remain permanently at three Pilcher films per year is open.

The plan for 2024 is "under discussion," said ZDF.

The Sunday “Herzkino” series is getting new films such as “Unter'm Apfelbaum” or the “Family Anders” series, which will start in mid-March.

Despite the innovations: ZDF's departure from formats that have been successful for decades will probably not be quite so radical.

The broadcaster has just announced eight new episodes of the thriller dinosaur »Der Alte«.

Season 47 starts on March 10th.

An innovation here too: From the third episode, which runs on March 24, Thomas Heinze takes over from Jan-Gregor Kremp as investigating commissioner.

Otherwise everything should stay the same.
