After the Perpignan outcry, the Les Déferlantes festival finds a new base

The event will be held in Barcarès, the organizers announced, a month after the cancellation of their controversial visit to the main city led by the National Rally.

In January, they had given up organizing the 2023 edition in Perpignan after the refusal of the groups Indochine and Louise Attaque to perform there, to the chagrin of the municipality of Louis Aliot (RN).

"After more than three intense weeks (...) we have chosen, in consultation with the artists and the communities (...) the Lydia gardens in Barcarès"

, they declared on their site.

The current music festival wanted to leave the Pyrenean city of Céret, where it took place in 2022, for Perpignan.

The Indochine group, known for its commitment against far-right ideas, then urged the organizers to find

"another place"

, failing which it would cancel its visit.

The festival will therefore be held on another site in the Pyrénées-Orientales, as the Frontera production, organizer of the event, had undertaken to do.

Festival-goers have an appointment from July 6 to 9 on the beaches of Barcarès, on a site already hosting several events including the Electrobeach festival scheduled for July 14, 15 and 16.

In 2022, Les Déferlantes welcomed more than 100,000 festival-goers for four days.

This year, national and international celebrities Sting, Bigflo & Oli, Damso, David Guetta, Lomepal, Izïa, Pomme, Rosalía and Soprano are on the bill.
