"At the time my parents won, bringing me back to life with their love, their struggle, their music, never giving up. Now it's my turn": Gianluca Sciortino, who became famous in '92 when, at the age of 10 years old, he woke up from his coma to the tune of Antonello Venditti's song 'Tell me what it is', he is preparing to release a new album, 'Guerriera', dedicated to his mother Gerarda, who died recently, and to his father Pino.

The courageous mother had been the protagonist of the Rai1 fiction inspired by her moving story, 'In the name of her son'.

About forty days after being diagnosed with cancer, Gerarda died and Gianluca lost his anchor.

"When I went into a coma, many doctors didn't believe in my awakening and said that even if I survived, I would remain a vegetable," he says.

Thanks to the tenacity of the parents and the care, his second birth was possible.

In an open letter entitled 'Diary of a sweet melancholy', with the subtitle 'We were happy and we didn't know it', Sciortino writes that "the serious and sudden loss of a mother changes lives forever" but her message is one of hope, like when he intervenes in schools talking about music therapy and the saving power of emotions.

"

I'm still here - he adds - to immerse myself more and more in life.

As a composer, songwriter, I have recorded some songs which, combined with the guiding one, 'Guerriera', will be collected in an album from which my soul will shine through without filters.

I discovered the importance of a father - he adds - who tries in the best way to laboriously cover the role of mother by dedicating himself entirely to me.

Music helps me and I hope it will help me in the path of my tormented existence".

A light hit Gianluca before he woke up from the coma.

"The closer I got to this luminous entity, the more I left behind the sense of bewilderment and fear. The moment I got close to that intense and enveloping light, flashes of familiar faces appeared to me - he remembers - my parents. I remember them as images of an off-camera spectator. My moment had not come. I was attracted by that light but I felt a force that held me and pushed me back into that kind of luminous tunnel. I then felt a thud, the existence of my body, a physical pain".

Today Gianluca reports "a strange and recurring episode" that accompanies him even in these cold winter days.

"Almost every time I leave the house in the morning,

a white butterfly - he says - flutters in front of me and disappears in an instant". It is a silent company that alleviates his melancholy, thinking of his mother. "I love going to the places where we usually went in three - adds Sciortino - to perceive that sensation again to feel like three.

Melancholy doesn't take away my will to fight."

The tracks on the album were made in a recording studio near Naples.

Each song tells something about Gianluca.

'La nuova era', written a few years ago, makes use of the collaboration of Tony Esposito, the maestro Mario Simeoli intervened during the processing of other songs.

There is also a cover, 'The song of lost love', by Fabrizio De André.

Sciortino is ready to return to the stage.

"Performing in front of many or few is not important, empathy - he says - is the same for me".
