(ANSA) - RIO DE JANEIRO, FEBRUARY 03 - The president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, said he was "sure" that his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro - whom he called "a psychopath" - had prepared and participated in an attempt of a coup d'état on the occasion of the assault on the palaces of power in Brasilia which took place on 8 January by radical supporters of the former right-wing leader.
"This citizen has prepared a coup d'état. Today I am aware of it, I will say it loud and clear: this citizen has prepared a coup d'état," Lula said during an interview with journalist Kennedy Alencar on RedeTv's 'ÉNotícia' program.
"They wanted to make a mess on January 1st, but they realized it wasn't possible because there were too many policemen and too many people on the street", added the President of the Republic about the New Year's ceremony, the day of his official inauguration in government.
