Ukraine has postponed the decision whether or not to boycott the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games in case of opening to the participation of Russia and Belarus and has decided to step up its efforts to lobby international sports leaders.
In a meeting, the Ukrainian Olympic Committee did not pledge to boycott in the absence of an "official decision" from the IOC but approved plans to consult and persuade sports officials around the world over the next two months.
The members of the committee, said the president of the Olympic Committee and the minister of sport of Kiev, Vladimir Gutzeit, voted for "consultations on the prevention of the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in all international competitions and a possible boycott".
The International Olympic Committee is considering opening up the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Paris Games, as "neutral athletes", without national flags or anthems.
"We are strongly against it, until the war ends", added Gutzeit, specifying that the Olympic committee will return to discuss the situation - and the boycott hypothesis - in two months' time.
