Fashion is definitely on the TV comeback.
Three months after the triumphant return of “Star Academy” on TF 1, another cult musical format from the 2000s could soon be making a comeback: “Popstars”.
According to our information, a new version of the show is currently in the validation phase at Prime Video, Amazon's SVoD platform.
In production, we would find Banijay, associated with DMLS TV, a company that has already worked on the last season of "Star Ac'" on TF1.
"The success of the Star Academy on TF 1 has visibly whetted the appetite", laughs a producer from the Paris market.
“It's smart because the writing of
Popstars
corresponds well to a platform.
It would be a nice blow for Amazon.
According to our information, the American giant should decide whether or not to take the plunge in the coming weeks.
Contacted, its French branch makes no comment.
Short-lived careers
"Popstars" was the heyday of M 6 from 2001 to 2003, before returning for a season in 2007. Showing the creation of a music group, from the casting to the recording of the first album, the show had notably launched the ephemeral career of L 5, Whatfor, and other Linkup, which included a certain Matt Pokora.
In 2007, season 4 of "Popstars" also revealed singer Sheryfa Luna.
To ensure its success, the show had been able to count on juries of colorful music professionals.
Among them, the choreographers Mia Frye and Bruno Vandelli or the producer Valéry Zeitoun.
The key, now cult replicas, from Mia Frye's "Pia Pia Pia in your body" to the unforgettable "Quadricolor" by Bruno Vandelli.
In 2013, the TV hook had made a brief return to television after six years of absence.
Proposed on D 8 (future C8), this new version aligned a jury composed in particular of the rapper La Fouine, the producer Alexia Laroche-Joubert and the ex-Miss France, Mareva Galanter.
Revealing the forgotten female group The Mess, this last season had closed in indifference, despite a nice effect of curiosity for its premiere.
Overcoming the latter will undoubtedly be one of the main challenges for Amazon Prime Video.
