The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has conferred 30 Certificates of Honor of "Alfiere della Repubblica".

    The selection among many deserving, explains a note from the Quirinale, "was aimed at enhancing behaviors and actions of solidarity, now in the context of a welcome to Ukrainian children fleeing the war, now through other gestures of friendship, cooperation, inclusion so that diversities never become barriers.The witnesses chosen are not examples of rare actions, but are emblematic of widespread behavior among young people, who illustrate a mosaic of civic virtues of which, fortunately, our communities are rich.The stories of the Alfieri of the Republic can therefore also be seen as the tip of a large iceberg which represents, in every territory, the daily life of young people".



    President Mattarella has also assigned four plaques for collective actions that intend to enhance the active and heartfelt participation of young people, also in order to encourage their more conscious protagonism.

Mario Amatuzio, 21/11/2005, residing in Bojano (CB) - For the voluntary work carried out especially in favor of elderly people during the most acute phase of the pandemic, and for the commitment with which he contributes to the school inclusion and fight against bullying.

Mario stood out particularly during the Covid period for his altruism and voluntary commitment, delivering food and medicines to lonely elderly people at home, and keeping them company in his spare time.

Even at school he was always at the forefront to promote the inclusion of peers in difficulty and to combat bullying.

To this end, he has created multimedia awareness campaigns.

His solidarity action has also materialized on a personal level, offering time and friendship to those who have suffered episodes of bullying,

Viola Bandinu, 5/2/2006, residing in Olbia (SS) - For the mature commitment with which she participates as a volunteer in after-school projects and activities for younger children.

Her ability to listen and welcome the most vulnerable of hers also allowed her to become an example for other volunteers.

A young volunteer of the Italian Red Cross, Viola has decided to engage with energy and curiosity in numerous social activities.

You have actively participated in after-school projects aimed at younger children.

During the pandemic, as part of the Red Cross initiative "The Time of Kindness", Viola took care of the delivery of food parcels and shopping vouchers to those who were in conditions of greater vulnerability.

Alexander Bani, 31/5/2012, residing in Città di Castello (PG) - For the solidarity and friendship shown towards little Sasha, a Ukrainian child who fled the conflict and was a guest of an Italian family for a few months.

Alexander has a Russian mother and attends primary school.

His Institute, like many Italian schools, has opened its doors to children and young people fleeing the war that broke out in Ukraine.

Among the children welcomed by the school attended by Alexander there is also Sasha, who arrived in Italy with his mother and his two-year-old brother, after hastily abandoning the Ukrainian town where he lived, bombed by Russian missiles.

On the first day of school in Italy, Sasha found Alexander welcoming him, together with other children, who improvised as a cultural mediator to promote

introduction of the new friend and classmate.

The two children immediately became inseparable, sharing many interests.

Alexander's so spontaneous welcome allowed Sasha to rediscover in a short time that sense of normality that the difficulties and traumas resulting from her flight from her country had compromised.

Aniello Capuano, 26/8/2004, residing in Siano (SA) - For the tenacity with which he faces the disease that struck him as a child, managing to draw strength to engage in the dissemination of knowledge on facioscapulohumeral dystrophy and for support scientific research.

Using his computer skills, he created a youtube channel about it.

Aniello is a boy of extraordinary energy, suffering from facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD), a rare disease due to which he lost his sight and hearing, then partially recovered thanks to a cochlear implant.

At school, his behavior is commendable: during the lockdown period, he generously made his computer skills available to his classmates, developed to deal with the disease, to help them in remote lessons.

Alessandro Cuomo, 28/5/2004, residing in Rome - For the civic sense shown in giving prompt help to a lady, victim of a theft.

He bravely chased after the two thieves, helped to bring one of them to justice and managed to return the stolen wallet to the victim.

The lady had withdrawn money from the ATM, had been followed by the thieves, who with a ruse had first accosted her on the sidewalk, then deftly managed to steal her wallet.

Alessandro was near his high school.

At the cries for help he did not hesitate to go to the rescue of the victim.

He immediately understood what was happening and started running, together with a companion, in pursuit of the two thieves.

He has reached one.

He called the attention of a traffic police patrol,

who brought the thief to justice.

So he was able to recover the stolen money and give it back to the lady, who remained far away from the fleeing thieves.

Alessandro didn't boast about what he did: he continued to say that he had performed a "normal" action.

William D'Alascio, 22/5/2012, resident of Crespina Lorenzana (PI) - For the commitment and generosity with which, in the most difficult phases of the pandemic, he ensured that his classmates, forced into the house by the virus , did not fall behind in the curriculum, delivering their homework like a real postman.

William attends primary school and stood out, in the most difficult period of the spread of Covid, for the commitment and generosity with which he collected the material created in class every day and brought it home to his classmates who from time to time had contracted the virus.

Maddalena Da Rozze, 20/3/2006, residing in Sedico (BL) - For the dignity and strong sense of responsibility with which she takes care of her sick mother every day.

Her maturity allowed her to save her mother's life when, in the face of a sudden aggravation, she was able to immediately activate the rescue services.

Maddalena's mother fell ill with a degenerative disease when she was only three years old.

Since she was a child, with love and maturity, she has helped her mother by assisting her in the care necessary to keep her alive.

During the pandemic, following a sudden worsening of her mother's health conditions, Maddalena found herself having to manage an emergency alone at home: she was quick to raise the alarm and call for help, which allowed to save the woman.

With her blog you have contributed to making known the tragedy that the Ukrainian people are experiencing.

In 2020 Chiara founded #PlugInTheWorld (www.plugintheworld.org), a blog where girls from all over the world have the opportunity to tell their stories without fear of being judged, addressing global issues or injustices they are experiencing in their communities .

Through the pages of the blog Chiara denounced the violations of the rights of the Ukrainian people and supported concrete forms of solidarity.

Since she was a child, in the scouts, she had shown great sensitivity for the fight against climate change and for the fight against all forms of discrimination.

It has collaborated with the Malala Fund association, created by Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, to guarantee free and quality education to girls who are unable to go to school for political and cultural reasons in their countries.

Chiara is also part of the "Girl Up" organization, which supports the education, health and safety of teenage girls through information and campaigns.

Giulia Martinello, 30/5/2004, residing in San Pietro in Gu (PD) - For her voluntary service in favor of a Bosnian community which, years later, has still not managed to forget the horror of war.

A testimony of concrete solidarity, achieved by giving up the summer holiday period.

Giulia has always been very active in her community, as a scout and as an educator in after-school activities for the little ones.

At the age of 15 you entered the "Giulio Douhet" Military Aeronautical School in Florence.

Although school activities are very intense, Giulia has decided to use the days of the summer holidays to make herself available to those who need it most.

She participated as a volunteer in a scout camp in Vareš,

one of the municipalities of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina which is still very heavily affected by the consequences of the war.

Simone Rovere Meloni, 23/12/2003, residing in Uras (OR) - For the courage and perseverance with which he reacted to the loss of part of his flock following a dramatic flood.

The solidarity received gave him the strength to get up and to continue doing the job he had chosen for his future.

Simone is a young Sardinian shepherd who, at the end of November 2021, after a night of incessant rain, saw more than half of his flock of sheep drown in the mud.

A tremendous blow that could jeopardize his business forever.

Thanks to the Ales-Terralba Caritas appeal, funds were raised which allowed him to get up again.

Solidarity has gone beyond the borders of Sardinia and has allowed the young man to buy new sheep and secure the land.

Giovanni Scialdone, 3/12/2004, resident in Vitulazio (CE) - For having, without hesitation, practiced resuscitation maneuvers on a person in cardiac arrest saving his life.

For the constancy with which he engages in a work of raising awareness of the value of life-saving maneuvers and the culture of rescue.

Giovanni is a boy who is committed to studying and who has shown a vocation for medicine and the care of people since he was a child.

At the age of just 12, he intervened on a person in cardiac arrest by practicing resuscitation maneuvers, learned at home from his parents, who are instructors of first aid techniques.

Those maneuvers made it possible to keep the man alive, waiting for the ambulance, and therefore to save him.

When he grows up, Giovanni would like to be a doctor.

Sokona Souare, 10/7/2007, residing in Avigliana (TO) - For the courage and determination with which she faces her disability.

For the desire to communicate that she manages to convey, and the friendship that she has managed to build.

Sokona was born in Mali and arrived in Italy at the age of 9, after facing a very tough journey from her country of origin, through Libya and the subsequent crossing in the Mediterranean.

When she arrived in our country she had never seen a pencil because, having become deaf at just 4 years old due to untreated meningitis, children like her, where she lived, were not allowed to go to school.

When she arrived in Italy, her support teacher introduced her to Italian sign language and the world opened up for her.

She's become a completely different girl,

very sociable and well-disposed towards anyone who manifests a willingness to communicate with her.

This is what happened on her first day of middle school when Sokona met Anna Assunta, to whom she taught the manual alphabet and many LIS signs.

In a short time, an intense friendship was born between the two girls.

Francesco Spataro, 8/6/2006, residing in Celico (CS) - For the generous voluntary service through which he seeks to make his peers aware of the importance of sharing and the value of food.

Francesco, engaged in scouting since he was a child, has been actively collaborating as a volunteer with the Food Bank since 2017 to raise awareness as many people as possible about the value of food, the importance of sharing and the fight against waste.

Every year, on the occasion of National Food Collection Day, he works hard to spread the importance of this initiative at school, managing to involve friends and peers.

Francesco is very determined in spreading messages of solidarity and sharing,

convinced that greater justice in the distribution of food helps to combat poverty and strengthen the cohesion of society.

Riccardo Maria Jules Van Lysebetten, 3/12/2003, residing in San Donato Milanese (MI) - For the voluntary work, which never failed in the most acute phases of the pandemic.

Riccardo Yanovskyy, 27/12/2006, resident in Latina - For the generosity of soul and the testimony of solidarity and welcome shown towards fellow Ukrainians fleeing the war, especially a contemporary who arrived in Italy in the initial stages of the conflict.

Riccardo, born in Latina into a family of Ukrainian origin, was deeply marked by the outbreak of war.

His concern for the fate of relatives and acquaintances who remained in his hometown, Chernihiv, has always been great.

Riccardo is committed to solidarity and acceptance of refugees from Ukraine.

A few months ago Dimitrii, "Dima" to his companions, arrived in Latina: he is only 15 years old and has fled the destruction of Chernihiv, the same city from which Riccardo's family comes.

The two boys met at school and Riccardo immediately made himself available to Dima to facilitate his inclusion in the classroom and in the group of peers.

He was a fundamental support for his classmates and teachers, continuously lending himself to the role of translator from Ukrainian to Italian.

Tommaso Zotti, 22/11/2008, residing in Campo San Martino (PD) - For the promptness with which he faced an emergency situation, caused by the illness of the driver of a school bus.

Thanks to his intervention, all the occupants of the vehicle managed to save themselves.

Tommaso was on the school bus on his way home when the driver fell ill.

Luckily, before losing consciousness he was able to drive the bus to the side of the road.

Tommaso, with great lucidity and promptness, managed to open the doors of the school bus and get all the children out of the bus, safely.

He then asked for help from a family who lived nearby, completing the task of rescuing his companions, himself and the driver, who could thus be rescued.

Cristiano, Davide (aged between 16 and 18) - Thanks to the inclusive strength of their friendship Marco, Cristiano, Adam, Manuel and Davide are the "Belfortissimi on the way", five boys from Belforte all'Isauro, a small inland village from the Marche region, who have decided to celebrate their graduation with a trip.

The particularity of the trip lies in the fact of having traveled the Camino de Santiago, 902 km of dirt roads, paths and climbs, together with a joelette, an off-road wheelchair, designed to allow those with reduced mobility to travel off-road sections thanks to the help of at least three companions.

So all five were able to live this experience together.

Proof that the strength of friendship allows you to accomplish seemingly impossible feats.
