(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, FEBRUARY 04 - "We have received reports that another Chinese spy balloon is in transit over the skies of Latin America".
Pentagon spokesman General Pat Ryder told CNN.
It is not clear exactly which Latin American country is flying over the Beijing spy balloon.
But, according to reports from the Pentagon, he would not be headed for the United States.
Meanwhile, for the spy balloon that still travels at high altitude over the skies of the eastern United States, the former defense secretary and former director of the CIA, Leon Panetta, said he did not believe Beijing's version that it was a trivial aircraft to gather information about the weather.
"It is a spy balloon, it is collecting intelligence information and it is operated by China. At the very least it must be intercepted and it must be taken under control. If there are no other possibilities, it must be shot down immediately," said Panetta.
And as US Northern Command (Usnorthcom) is coordinating with NASA to determine how large the debris fall radius would be if the Chinese balloon were to be shot down, William Kim,
A surveillance balloon specialist at the Marathon Initiative think tank in Washington believes the shoot down is difficult because the spy balloon could be guided by advanced artificial intelligence technology.
