Dream couple on the ice:

The European Figure Skating Championships in Espoo, Finland, were dominated by the Italians: the gold medal in ice dance and pair skating went to southern Europe, with Sara Conti and Niccolo Macii winning the latter discipline.

The two are not only successful together (and, as the picture shows, capable of impressive feats), but also a couple privately.

In passing

Olaf Scholz was on a tour of South America this week.

The program also included a meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

In the capital, Brasilia, the Chancellor visited the well-known Cathedral of Our Lady.

There he met a woman asking for alms.

The Metropolitan Cathedral is one of the major works of the late Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and was inaugurated in 1970.

With a clenched fist

In Oakland, California, people protest against police violence.

The protest march is in response to the brutal death of Tire Nichols.

The African American was caught in a police check in Memphis a few weeks ago and was beaten to death by five police officers.

Specialty officers said Nichols attempted to resist arrest.

However, video recordings show the brutal behavior of the police officers.
