Precisely in an age where children are addicted to screens, the excellent musical "Matilda", centered on a genius girl who frequents the library for morning news, is coming to Israel.
The musical "Matilda", produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, is the story of a little girl with the mind of a superhero.
She has an extraordinary imagination, and there is almost no challenge that can stand up to her.
She is also opinionated and determined, knows how to take an independent position and change the fate of her life, and she is probably one of the only ones who would prefer to visit the library and not be crushed in front of the television.
"Matilda" is a book by British Roald Dahl.
In 1996, the classic became a film, and later a musical, which has been running for more than a decade in London's West End.
It was written and directed by Dahl's book by Tony Award winners Dennis Clay and Matthew Warchus, and the songs written and composed by Tim Minchin.
Out of you the musical.
A great performance of young actors,
"Matilda" is one of the top five musicals in the world, and won 101 prestigious international awards.
The complete production is coming to Eretz, including all the sets and costumes designed by Rob Howell.
The choreography is by Peter Darling, the lighting is in charge of Hugh Vanston, and the production will be accompanied by an orchestra conducted by Christopher Nightingale.
There are adult actors and children on stage, but the focus is stolen by the children - most of whom are not yet 14 years old. They are British students at an arts school, with stage art running through their veins: they sing, dance, act and deal with volumes of text that would challenge experienced actors.
The main role, of Matilda, is mesmerizing and almost inhuman.
A large part of this show rests on her back, and she is up to the task.
At the end of the show - you can't help but fall in love with her.
The setting is also particularly well-invested, and despite its complexity will arrive in the same version for Israel, including three stressful swings that move above the crowd.
The musical will be performed in Israel in English with Hebrew subtitles.
It's a musical of a very high standard, the kind that doesn't exist in Israel yet, and if it ever comes here - you should not miss it.
"Matilda" will be performed at the Opera House in Tel Aviv on August 7. Ticket sales will begin today (Sunday) at the Tel Aviv box office, by calling *2207 or using the link.
