My mood at the moment?
Joyfully exhausted!
Releasing my first film, starting to write the second and shooting at the same time as an actor explains why I am exhausted, but also happy with what is happening to me.
My film,
Amore Mio
…
… is a story of women, because it's the actresses, especially those in Italian cinema, who have always touched me.
Telling the story of a sibling inspires me because I find that the place we occupy in a family never changes: the youngest will always be the youngest for his brothers and sisters.
My two heroines, separated for years, must get to know each other as adults.
“I wrote for Alysson Paradis: to film the person I love”
My actresses?
I wrote for Alysson Paradis: to film the person I love and because her great femininity, combined with her bad boy side, fascinates me.
As for Élodie Bouchez, I wanted her to bring her sweetness, her kindness and her fantasy to her character, Margaux, a woman who seems a bit austere.
What were my inspirations?
I was brought up with John Cassavetes films, so I think I was unconsciously inspired by the idea that the characters are the subject of the film.
I also watched a lot of
American Honey,
by Andrea Arnold (even if my film is less shocking!), as well as the realistic portraits of Nan Goldin.
Anecdotes about my film?
You can recognize my voice in a scene and notice a few winks addressed to the people I love, like Vanessa Paradis (Alysson's sister, editor's note) and the painter Inès Longevial...
Best and worst partners?
As an actor, the best directors are those who do this job out of the need to create.
However, this urgency is not found only in so-called “auteur” cinema: I feel it just as much with Claire Denis as with Alain Chabat.
People think I'm badass 'cause I've been in thrillers

The review that makes me happy?
I'm touched when people say I'm sincere, because I feel like I'm not cheating or hiding too much in life.
The question I don't answer in an interview?
I avoid questions about my private life as much as possible, because a family gravitates around me which is precisely the victim of this media coverage.

Any misunderstanding about me?
People think I'm a badass because I've been in thrillers, but I'm a real badass.
The last time I was proud of myself?
It may sound a bit naive, but I'm proud of myself when I feel like I'm a good father to my two boys.
My projects ?
I'm shooting
La Rosalie,
by Stéphanie Di Giusto, on the story of the bearded woman, in which I play an odious character opposite Nadia Tereszkiewicz and Benoît Magimel.
I also shot
Polar Park
, a series for Arte, with Jean-Paul Rouve, adapted from
Poupoupidou
, a film we made together ten years ago.
What am I going to do after this interview?
I'm going to delve into the box of César films to see
La Nuit du 12,
by Dominik Moll, and
Smoking makes you cough,
by Quentin Dupieux.
Amore Mio
, by Guillaume Gouix, with Alysson Paradis, Élodie Bouchez and Viggo Ferreira-Redier.
Currently in theaters.
