With the approval of the government today, the construction of a new and mixed community settlement in Israel is underway, expected to house over 500 religious and secular families and to respond to the growing demand in the region

The government approved today (Sunday) the establishment of a new community settlement in the Gaza Strip - known at this stage by its temporary name "Hanon", and will house over 500 families, religious and secular, at different stages of their lives.

This, following the approval and recommendation of the National Committee for Planning and Construction.

The new settlement will be established on the territory of the Sdot Negev Regional Council, east of Kibbutz Saad.

The establishment of the settlement is in accordance with the government's policy for the promotion and development of the periphery and the strengthening of settlement in the Negev, the Galilee and the Gaza Strip.

Also, the location intended for the establishment of the settlement is between existing agricultural settlements and close to main infrastructures, so the process of establishing the settlement is expected to be quick and save development costs, without harming the environment and landscape in the area.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

who led the move together with the Minister of Construction and Housing, said at the cabinet meeting that "we see that people are speaking in their decisions and actions, to come and settle in the Gaza Strip and establish new settlements in the area. We are proud to build the Land of Israel and strengthen settlement in all its parts."

According to the Ministry of Construction and Housing headed by Minister Goldknopf, in recent years the demand for housing in the settlements surrounding Gaza has been increasing, but it has encountered difficulty in being absorbed in the existing settlements, since these are cooperative agricultural settlements, where most of them are already fully occupied.

The establishment of the new settlement is expected to answer this need.

The Minister of Construction and Housing, Yitzhak Goldknopf

, welcomes the approval of the proposal by the government, and says that "this is a happy day for me and for all the citizens of Israel, the establishment of a new settlement is of enormous national importance, especially these days, and especially in the Gaza Strip. When I entered the office, I made it my goal to continue to build, develop and strengthen the settlement. The new settlement is expected to respond to the increase in demand for settlement in the area, and to strengthen our southern border with the Gaza Strip."

Defense Minister Yoav Galant,

who was one of the initiators and leaders of the establishment of the new settlement during his tenure as Minister of Construction and Housing, said at the end of the cabinet meeting that "the establishment of a new settlement in the Gaza Strip is the practical realization of the Zionist vision. Strengthening the settlement in the Negev and the Gaza Strip at this time sends a clear message: in the face of the threats In the region we plant, establish and settle. Today's decision is a closing of the circle for me, the vision becomes a reality."

Furthermore, Gallant says, "I believe that the promotion and development of settlements all over the country is of strategic importance for the State of Israel. I have acted in this spirit in the past and will continue to act in this way as the Minister of Defense."
