Virtual schools in Syria are a new experience that enhances distance education, according to the educational curricula, to provide an opportunity for students wishing to learn the Syrian curricula remotely inside and outside Syria.

The experiment began last year through 19 schools distributed among the governorates (Damascus - Rif Dimashq - As-Suwayda - Quneitra - Homs - Hama). .

The Director of Education at the Ministry of Education, Imad Hazim, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that virtual schools provide different types of education and distance learning, with all its requirements, in accordance with the general educational policy of the Ministry of Education in Syria, and in line with the digital transformation in education globally, which the Ministry of Education is pursuing in its educational policy.

The importance of these schools, according to Hazeem, stems from the fact that they link learners in expatriate countries to their homeland, enhance the idea of ​​belonging and rooted in the homeland, and allow them to pursue their educational attainment and obtain recognized certificates, pointing out that virtual schools provide educational services with the latest technical means, such as using research methods and conducting evaluation and examinations electronically. It provides electronic student services and an electronic library, as well as a constantly updated database and information.

Hazeem pointed out that the number of learners varies between the 19 schools, according to the targeted educational stages, and according to the plan approved by the schools to attract learners, while the teaching staff is selected according to the conditions stipulated in the executive instructions of Decree No. 55 of 2004 from university degree holders. Contract with them and complete the required approvals.

Hazeem indicated that the virtual schools adhere to the school calendar circulated by the Ministry of Education, apply the enrollment and admission instructions for all educational stages, which are issued annually by the Ministry, and adhere to the approved study plan, pointing out that these schools implement the Syrian national curriculum for all educational stages, and the curriculum for category (B). It is accredited, and its teaching and examinations are in the Arabic language, except for the foreign language subject. Virtual schools may teach additional books or courses in the foreign language, and that the examination system in them is applied electronically.

On the mechanism of the educational process in these schools and the supervision of the Ministry of Education on this process, Hazeem said: The Ministry of Education supervises the educational process in virtual schools, and deals with the treatment of public schools, through educational mentors and specialists supervising by attending lessons, and ensuring the implementation of strategies And appropriate methods. Accounts are allocated on the schools’ website for the concerned directorates in the ministry (education, educational supervision, examinations, informatics) that allow them to enter and view, each according to his specialization, the proper conduct of teaching in them according to the regulations.
