, the plans for this are now up for approval in the various ministries.
After the parliamentary summer break this year, the draft law should be ready and the legislative process should begin.
The basic child security should therefore consist of two components: an income-independent guaranteed amount, which should be the same for all children and young people, and a graduated additional amount dependent on the parents' income.

What should that look like in concrete terms?
"The basic amount should at least correspond to the child benefit in its current form," says the report by Deutschlandfunk Kultur on the plans.
Child benefit is currently €250 per child per month.
"This amount should be adjusted every two years based on the subsistence level report by the federal government." The basic amount should also be a "guaranteed amount" and "as such should not be offset against social benefits such as the parents' basic income," says the report .
"In addition to a lump sum for education and participation (currently 15 euros), the additional contribution should include a lump sum for children's housing costs (currently 150 euros)," the portal also describes.
However, if the family income increases, the additional contribution should decrease accordingly.

What should be simplified by the basic child security?
So far, families with low incomes, but who don't have so little that they are dependent on citizen's income, can apply for the so-called child allowance of up to 250 euros per child in addition to child benefit.
You are also entitled to benefits from the “education and participation package” – the state covers the costs of school trips, school trips, sports clubs and school supplies, for example.
"These benefits should no longer have to be applied for separately, but should be included in the basic child security system," reported the German Press Agency (as of January 19) on the basis of the key issues paper on the reform plans.
