A drunk man pushed a woman into the track bed at Troisdorf train station near Bonn.
According to witnesses, the alleged attacker initially sat on the platform and smoked.
Then he begged the passing woman for a cigarette.
When she didn't give him one, the 30-year-old is said to have snatched the handbag from the passer-by and pushed her off the platform onto the track bed.
She suffered a head laceration and other injuries.
Striking, fiery red knitted hat
The federal police in Cologne announced that travelers had helped the injured woman out of the track bed.
The alerted officials found a witness at the scene who said the perpetrator was wearing a conspicuous, fire-red knitted hat with a brand logo.
Based on the description provided by the witness, the suspect was identified and arrested shortly thereafter.
The officers took him away and initiated criminal proceedings against the man known to the police.
He was later picked up by his father.
