The 65th Grammy Awards, equivalent to the Oscars for music, was held at Crypto.com in Los Angeles on Sunday (February 5).
It thus rewarded the best recordings, compositions and artists of the year, from October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022.
To everyone's surprise, Briton Harry Styles won the best album of the year award for
Harry's House
, beating the two big favorites, Adele and Beyoncé, who lost the award.
"It doesn't happen that often to people like me, and it's so cool,"
the singer said onstage at the Grammy Awards.
Best Rock Album went to Patient Number 9, Ozzy Osbourne's thirteenth studio album.
The American singer Lizzo has also beaten the great favorites Beyoncé and Adele, to win the prize for the best recording of the year, thanks to her title
About Damn Time.
"I promise you that in your life you will find people, you will attract people who will believe in you and who will support you,"
she said on stage at the Grammys.
This interpretation award has a taste of revenge for Lizzo who, in 2020, had to bow to the pop phenomenon Billie Eilish.
On stage, moved to tears, the singer paid tribute to Prince, who died in 2016, but also to Beyoncé, queen of this 65th Grammy Awards ceremony.
A record for Beyoncé
Queen B obviously does not leave empty-handed.
Beyoncé added four Grammys to her collection, bringing her total to 32, and surpassing classical bandleader Georg Solti's record.
The 41-year-old singer won the prize for best dance/electronic album of the year for
Renaissance
as well as the prize for best R&B song with
Cuff It
.
"I try not to be too emotional,
" she said on stage.
I want to thank God for protecting me.
Thank God."
The singer also thanked her family and
“the queer community for your love and for inventing the genre”.
She is the most awarded artist of the evening, ahead of Kendrick Lamar, who won three awards, including best rap album thanks to
Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers
, and Brandi Carlile, who also won three.
Samara Joy, revelation of the year
Meanwhile, the coveted Grammy Award for Newcomer of the Year is won by Samara Joy, a young American jazz singer.
This 23-year-old African-American from the Bronx, New York, triumphed over Brazilian popstar Anitta, Franco-American duo DOMi & JD Beck and Italian rockers Maneskin.
Impressed by her voice, critics compare her to great African-American jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan or Nina Simone.
On the Los Angeles stage, the young woman paid tribute to her family and to all the artists present in the
“sources of inspiration”
room .
Blues singer Bonnie Raitt 's song
Just Like That
, about an organ donor, was voted song of the year.
The Best Video Game Soundtrack category, added this year, recognized
Stephanie Economou
's Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarök .
