But Serge Lama's state of health does not allow him to sing on the evening of the ceremony.

I prefer to stay on what I was.
Today, I would have to sing sitting down.
This is not what the public wants to see... Physically, I am very damaged.

The singer was the victim of a serious car accident near Aix-en-Provence on August 12, 1965. In this drama he lost his fiancée Liliane Benelli.

Today Serge Lama, physically diminished, is however morally appeased.
In 2013, he refused this "
victory of honor
", because the organizers had clumsily thought of making a sort of festive potpourri by honoring Sheila, Adamo and Enrico Macias on the same day.
Today, for his 80th birthday, he will be the only one in the lair of the Seine Musicale to receive a deserved Victory of Honor.
And now the “
Superman
” of French song, who never drinks water, who always has bad hair and who walks askew, will therefore take this 2023 prize with “
emotion
”.
