Netflix accounts will soon no longer be shared.

But the streaming service has removed the relevant details from its side.

Berlin - According to Netflix, more than 100 million households worldwide do not pay for its service because they use the accounts of other households.

This is cheaper for those involved: You only have to pay for one account, a more expensive family account with multiple user accounts is not necessary.

After years of tolerance, this should be the end of it.

Last year, Netflix announced that it wanted to massively restrict account sharing.

Appropriate measures have yet to be announced.

In Germany, the streaming service wanted to get serious about it in the first quarter of 2023.

Netflix wants to stop account sharing: Specific details about the procedure have been published on the homepage

Netflix published specific details on its website at the end of January on how to take action against account sharers.

The IP address is intended to determine the location of the registered user's household.

If this address differs when logging in, Netflix assumes that the account is being used for another purpose.

If you are on the go and want to log in with your data when you are not at home, you can have a temporary code sent to you.

This is valid for seven consecutive days.

After that, a new one must be requested.

Netflix wants to stop account sharing: device should be blocked for illegal use

However, every 31 days you have to log in with your device via the LAN or WLAN of the primary location.

If this does not happen, this device will be blocked and you can no longer use it to log into the streaming service.

In order to unlock it, you would theoretically have to bring it into the stored home network.

While this is possible with mobile devices such as laptops, it may be difficult with televisions.

Netflix wants to stop account sharing: streaming service deletes support details from its homepage

However, the fact that the streaming service has quietly and secretly removed these details from its homepage is causing perplexity among Netflix subscribers in Germany.

Netflix didn't give a reason for this.

Now, the page just says, under "Share a Netflix account with other people," "If a device outside of your home logs into an account or is used regularly, we may ask you to verify the device, before it can be used to watch Netflix, or switch your Netflix household.”

This passage was not described in the old version of the measures against account sharing.

Instead, there is now no indication of a block.

How things will continue is not known.

However, a Netflix spokesman told the online portal

that account sharing in Germany should be restricted “in the near future”.
