Another earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 has shaken southeast Turkey, the Geoforschungszentrum Potsdam reported.
The epicenter was therefore not far from the city of Kahramanmaras in southeastern Turkey, near the Syrian border.
It's almost as strong as the first in a series of tremors that devastated parts of Syria and Turkey early Monday morning.
More than 1,200 people died in the first earthquake in the region.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said more than 900 people had died.
According to the authorities, at least 320 people have died in Syria.
In addition, there are the victims in the Syrian rebel areas, about which there are different figures: the Syrian civil protection organization White Helmets names 147, the aid organization SAMS more than 100 dead.
According to the Geoforschungszentrum Potsdam, the epicenter of the first two earthquakes was in southeastern Turkey, near the city of Gaziantep, not far from the border with Syria.
The experts now give the strength at 7.2, the second quake at 6.2 - dozens of other tremors of lower intensity followed.
The weather conditions made the rescue work more difficult, President Erdoğan had said.
The affected provinces are currently below zero, and it is snowing in some areas.
The earthquake with its epicenter in Kahramanmaras in southern Turkey shook southeastern Turkey on Monday morning.
The Turkish disaster service Afad corrected the strength of the main tremor from 7.4 to 7.7 at noon.
The catastrophe sparked worldwide sympathy.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised help, as did NATO, the United States, Israel and other countries.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that support is already on the way.
