(ANSA) - VALLETTA, FEBRUARY 07 - Alfred and George Degiorgio, the Maltese brother-killers responsible for the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, were sentenced to a further 4 years in prison for money laundering.
The accusation was formulated on the basis of evidence that emerged in one of the many secondary strands of the investigation into the death of the Maltese journalist.
The sentence was issued today by the Court of Valletta, in a hearing presided over by Judge Joe Mifsud.
Last year, the two pleaded guilty shortly after the start of the trial against them in which they risked life imprisonment for the murder of the journalist, massacred with a bomb placed in her car on October 16, 2017, and were sentenced to 40 years in prison (penalty that implies the possibility of being released on probation after about twenty years).
Last November, the two presented an appeal to have the trial reviewed.
Today, in addition to the additional four years, the judge has fined the Degiorgios 25,000 euros each and confiscated three luxury cars (a Mercedes, an Audi and a Corvette) and two pleasure boats that were in their possession.
