(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, FEBRUARY 07 - "We will most likely avoid the recession this year".
"In the ECB's forecasts, we expect slightly positive growth of 0.5% for this year as well. If there ever is a recession, we cannot completely rule it out yet", but "it should be slight", "limited" and "temporary".
"But I don't think we have to choose between fighting inflation or avoiding a recession: we will avoid a recession" and find a way to "fight inflation".
"This better economic environment probably makes our monetary task easier."
This was stated by the member of the governing council of the ECB, Francois Villeroy de Galhau, speaking at an event organized by Zeit 'Europe 2023".
