The bodies of the headmistress, her husband and their young daughter have been found on the grounds of one of England's most prestigious private schools.
The police in the county of Surrey, south of London, assumed on Monday that no third party was involved in the deaths.
She announced a comprehensive investigation into the background.
Rescue workers found the bodies of Principal Emma Pattison, 45, her husband, 39, and their seven-year-old daughter on Sunday morning on the grounds of Epsom College.
Pattison became the first woman to head the elite school in September.
School fees are 47,000 euros per year
Epsom College was founded in 1853 and currently has 850 students.
The college took first place in last year's independent schools competition.
The school fees are the equivalent of up to 47,000 euros per year.
The college said it was working closely with the police to investigate the background.
But the top priority is to help the traumatized students and the staff.
It will take some time to process these "shocking incidents".
