Or rather in the residual waste?

The Saturday walk to the used glass container is part of the weekend ritual for many.

Old wine bottles or pickle jars can be 100 percent recycled and given a new life.

A good thing then.

However, not all glass objects may be disposed of in the used glass container.

Does it include drinking glasses?

Where do I dispose of broken drinking glasses?

Even if it seems illogical: drinking glasses must not be disposed of in the used glass container.

Old drinking glasses or glass dishes belong in the residual waste - and not in the glass container.

The reason: The material of drinking glasses has a different composition than the glass for bottles or other food packaging and therefore has a different melting point, as

Ökotest

reports.

If drinking glasses are nevertheless thrown into the used glass container, this can result in problems with recycling and the production of new packaging glasses.

Shards should be thrown in the household rubbish anyway.

What else is not allowed in the waste glass container?

In addition to drinking glasses, other glass objects may not be disposed of in the used glass container.

According to

gruener-punkt.de

, these include :

  • Fireproof glass coffee pots

  • window panes

  • car windows

  • flat glass

  • Mirror

  • Lightbulbs, car lamps, fluorescent tubes

  • Glass casserole dishes

  • microwave dishes

  • Ceramic hobs or glass hotplates

  • flower pots and vases

Even crockery made of porcelain or earthenware has no place in used glass.

Dispose of small amounts in the residual waste, larger amounts at the recycling center.

You can find out here whether you should first remove the lid and screw caps from the waste glass.
