According to SPIEGEL information, the soccer professionals Jean-Luc Dompé and William Mikelbrencis from Hamburger HSV were apparently involved in an illegal street race in Hamburg.

Witnesses reported how before the crash on Monday evening the engines of the two powerful cars – type BMW M3 and a yellow AMG Mercedes – howled on Hafenstrasse.

The BMW driver eventually lost control of the car, drove over the curb and threw himself into a bus stop.

The car was badly damaged, glass splinters were scattered on the road.

Hit and run in a yellow Mercedes

According to SPIEGEL information, the BMW driver is said to be 27-year-old winger Dompé, who police officers found in his apartment only a short time later after asking the owner.

The soccer player had injuries to his hand, and the officials also found traces of blood in the accident car on Hafenstraße.

In addition to Dompé, the officers found two other men in the apartment – among them HSV teammates William Mikelbrencis.

The yellow Mercedes should be approved for the 18-year-old.

According to SPIEGEL information, the police discovered the car in the underground car park of the house.

In the alleged race at the wheel of the Mercedes, however, it was not Mikelbrencis who was sitting, but the third man, who was only visiting.

Mikelbrencis is said to have been a passenger.

HSV announces processing with players

Hamburger SV confirms that a player was involved in a car accident and that another player was said to be "present as a passenger in another vehicle in the vicinity of the accident".

People are said not to have been harmed.

The club announced: "HSV is in the internal processing with the players."

A police spokesman did not confirm the identity of the men, citing privacy protection.

The driver's role still has to be clarified, since they were not found on the spot.

With reference to descriptions by witnesses, the spokesman also reported that after the crash, the yellow Mercedes stopped and the BMW driver who had the accident got into the car.

The men then drove away together.

The police have now seized both cars, in particular the driving data of the cars are to be evaluated.

The officers are investigating the case of hit-and-run and an illegal street race.
