The race against the weather and the cold continues on Tuesday in the aftermath of the violent earthquakes which shook the south-east of Turkey and the north

Rescuers continue their search for survivors on Tuesday, the day after the powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and northern Syria.

In recent hours, the freezing cold, rain and sometimes snow have sometimes complicated their work.

The relief workers sometimes fought with their bare hands, to save every possible life, like this seven-year-old child who came out of the ruins in Hatay (South), on the Syrian border, after more than 20 hours of terror, the pajamas smeared with dust.

“Where is my mom?

she said to the rescuer who held her in his arms.

The human toll now exceeds 5,000 dead in southeastern Turkey and northern Syria.

International aid is due to arrive in Turkey and Syria on Tuesday for the affected regions.

Some 23 million people could be affected by the earthquakes that rocked southeastern Turkey and northern Syria, the WHO said on Tuesday, pledging long-term support after aid was sent to 'emergency.
