Rumors about the next iPhone, due out in the fall of 2023, follow one another. The latest rumors, spread by Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg journalist who keeps a periodic newsletter on the Apple world, speak of a possible new iPhone Ultra.
Like the current version of the Apple Watch Ultra, which differs from the traditional Cupertino connected watch in terms of materials and functionality, the iPhone Ultra would also be equipped with a more robust chassis capable of resisting scratches and falls, as well as integrating a more powerful connectivity compartment.
To further differentiate the iPhone Plus and Pro range from the Ultra, Apple could equip the latter with a faster processor, a better camera, with a periscope lens, and an even larger display.
“There may also be other future features, such as eliminating the charging port altogether,” Gurman adds.
The European Union has determined that by the end of 2024, all mobile phones, tablets and cameras in the EU will have to have a common USB-C charging port while, to date, iPhones have a proprietary port, known as Lightning.
Recent news about the iPhone 15 family suggests that Apple is already looking at various ways to differentiate the Pro models from their traditional siblings.
For example,
a report from the Engadget site states that the Pro variants could be equipped with 6e wi-fi connectivity, while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus would only mount WiFi 6 antennas, older and with less coverage.
In terms of construction, the frame of the iPhone Ultra, according to Gurman, would be made of titanium and without physical buttons. Instead, only touch-sensitive areas to press to turn the device on or off and manage the volume level.
