A classic rule of thumb says that you can tell the color of an egg by looking at a chicken's earlobe.
However, it is not that simple.
Why are some chicken eggs brown and others white?

The color also has nothing to do with the food, but depends on genetics.

In fact, the color depends on the breed of the animals.
But: A white hen can lay a brown egg just like a brown hen.
Can you tell the color of the eggs a hen lays by their earlobes?
A classic rule of thumb says that you can tell from the so-called ear disc, "a flap of skin that is slightly offset below the eye", as the

describes it, whether a chicken lays more brown or white eggs: "Chickens with white Earlobes usually lay white eggs, while chickens with a reddish tint usually lay brown eggs," the report says.
So this is true in many cases, but not always.

What breeds of chickens lay colorful eggs?
From the store shelves we only know the eggs with the brown or white shell.
