New details have been released in the case of Tire Nichols, who was fatally beaten by police officers in the US state of Tennessee.

The investigation by the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission spoke of "manifestly unprofessional" behavior by several emergency responders.

One of the police officers is said to have taken photos of the bleeding victim and sent them to colleagues and a female friend.

"Your conduct on duty was unlawful, manifestly unprofessional and indecent for a sworn officer," wrote the Memphis Police Department.

Videos contradict police report

Nichols was pulled over for "reckless driving" in Memphis in early January, according to police.

The police officers stated that there had been "confrontations".

However, a video recording of the operation showed that Nichols was brutally beaten by the officers.

He died in hospital a few days after the crime.

Six police officers involved in the crime were fired.

The video recordings also show that the requested rescue workers did not provide any help.

The New York Times reports that they did not examine Nichols for 19 minutes.

An EMT who worked on the Nichols investigative report said there were "reasons to believe" that EMTs' inaction "contributed to the patient's death."

The people concerned have been suspended.

Earlier in the week, the Memphis Fire Department had already fired two men who, according to their supervisors, had arrived at Nichols.

One of the two men did not even leave the emergency vehicle and failed to take care of Nichols.

Nichols' death and the brutality of the police operation had led to nationwide protests and a renewed discussion about racially motivated violence in the USA.

29-year-old Nichols was African American.

Five of the police officers who beat him up are also black.

They were charged with second-degree murder, which in Tennessee is an intermediate degree between murder and manslaughter.

A sixth police officer who was released later and who is said to have violated the rules for using tasers during the operation is white.

Deadly police attacks are common in the United States.

According to mappingpoliceviolence.org, more than 1,100 people have been killed by police in the past year.

According to the reports, black people in the US are almost three times as likely to be killed by police as white people.
