The earthquake in Turkey and Syria has killed tens of thousands of people.

Among them is an e-sportswoman.

Turkey – The year 2023 started with a great tragedy in Turkey.

On February 6, an earthquake measuring 7.8 magnitude shook large areas in the south-east of the country and also in neighboring Syria.

According to official figures, the death toll is over 16,000.

This makes it the worst natural disaster in Turkey since the great earthquake in 1999, which killed around 18,000 people.

Among the victims is a young esports athlete whose former team confirmed her death.

eSportswoman lived in Kahramanmaraş

: Gizem "Luie" Harmankaya was an eSportswoman and Valorant professional.

She resided in the city of Kahramanmaraş, which was badly hit by the earthquake.

Several portals report that she was there in one of the collapsed buildings and died in the earthquake.

Previously, acquaintances shared on social media that Gizem is missing as she did not respond to their calls and messages.

Confirmation of her death came from her former esports team, Unknownpros.

The official Twitter channel said:

Gizem was only 21 years old.

Rescue teams in both affected countries continue to search for people under the rubble.
