(ANSA) - LONDON, FEBRUARY 09 - The firefighters' union protest has been suspended in Great Britain while the offer of a salary increase from the government is being evaluated.
Even the firefighters are engaged in the vast public sector dispute over the request for an adjustment of salaries to the high cost of living.
The conservative executive led by Rishi Sunak has maintained a hard line towards the requests of the unions but has been harshly criticized for the severe inconvenience caused by the mobilization of many categories, especially in healthcare and transport.
Therefore, in the face of the continuous strikes, there are signs of negotiations, such as with regard to the firefighters who were offered a 7% wage increase backdated to July last year and another 5% starting next July.
The firefighters union (FBU) will now have its members vote on the deal.
More than 80% of them in December expressed themselves in favor of a strike to be held this year, the first for twenty years.
Last November, the offer of an average increase in wages of 5%, well below current inflation, was rejected.
