In the case of the teacher killed in Ibbenbüren, a macabre detail became known: the 17-year-old, who is said to have stabbed the teacher a month ago, claims to have decided on the attack with a coin toss.
He said this to a policewoman after his arrest, said senior public prosecutor Martin Botzenhardt from the Münster public prosecutor's office on Thursday.
"Whether that's really true is completely open." Previously, "Focus online" had reported about it.
The original name of the murder commission in the case - "Coin" - was changed after criticism from the FDP.
Coin toss memo
The choice of name was shameful, criticized Marc Lürbke, the domestic spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group.
"That's not possible and unfortunately it can hardly be surpassed in terms of tastelessness." Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) had the name changed on his advice.
The NRW Ministry of the Interior confirmed this. The new name of the homicide squad is now »Büren«, the ministry said.
The 55-year-old teacher was stabbed to death in a vocational college classroom on January 10.
The alleged perpetrator was one of her students.
After the fact, he called the emergency number himself and was arrested without resistance.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the statement was made with the toss of a coin.
That comes from a memorandum.
The suspect is in custody.
Before the act, he had been noticed as verbally aggressive, and the school had ordered educational measures.
A few hours before the bloody crime, a one-day expulsion from school was imposed on the student because of conflicts with his teachers, which is said to have been pronounced by the school management.
It is still unclear whether there is a connection to the homicide.
According to senior public prosecutor Botzenhardt, there was no new information about the motive.
