Throw away water after boiling potatoes?

Too bad!

What you should note, however, if you want to continue using the potato water.

You can think of strategies to save water, not just for environmental reasons, but also to save money.

For example, one is: reuse pasta water after cooking.

But that doesn't just work with the water you cooked pasta in.

You can also continue to use potato water, for example to water plants with it - as long as you have not salted the potato water.

The minerals and nutrients contained in potatoes not only benefit your plants: you can also use the potato water wonderfully in the kitchen.

You should keep this in mind if you want to reuse potato water after cooking

  • Salt:

Depending on what you want to use the potato water for after cooking, you should boil the potatoes in the water with or without the addition of salt. As already mentioned, salted potato water is no longer suitable for watering flowers.

  • Skin:

Regardless of what you want to use the potato water for after cooking the potatoes, it is always advisable to peel the potatoes before cooking.

The potato peel contains solanine, which is toxic to humans.

By peeling, you also ensure that neither soil nor other dirt gets into the potato water.
