Turkey-Syria earthquake, death toll exceeds 17,500

(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, FEBRUARY 09 - The toll from the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria has risen to over 17,500.

   This is reported by official data while the hopes of finding survivors under the rubble begin to fade.

   Officials and doctors said 14,351 people died in Turkey and 3,162 in Syria from Monday's 7.8-magnitude quake, bringing the confirmed total to 17,513.
